What to Check Before You Buy
The things that decide whether you are happy in three years, most of which are not on the feature list.

Appliance marketing competes on feature counts, because features are easy to list and hard to evaluate. The things that actually determine whether you are still happy in three years are duller.
Service, before features
An appliance is a decade-long relationship with a service network. Before choosing a brand, find out whether it has authorised service in your city, and what people locally say about response times.
A brand with excellent specifications and no nearby service centre is a worse purchase than a duller machine someone can actually come and fix. This is particularly true outside metros, and it is the single most common regret.
Read the warranty properly
“Ten year warranty” almost always means ten years on one component — typically the compressor or motor — and one or two years on everything else. The electronics, which on modern appliances are the most likely thing to fail, are usually covered for the shorter period.
Ask specifically: what is covered, for how long, and does it include labour and call-out, or only the part?
Measure the route, not just the space
The gap the appliance will sit in is the easy measurement. The one people forget is the path to it: doorways, tight turns, stair widths, lift dimensions.
Also leave clearance for ventilation and for doors to open fully. A fridge crammed into an exact-fit alcove runs hotter and works harder.
Features worth having, and not
Ask of each feature: will I use this weekly?
Things that usually earn their place — a genuinely useful capacity, sensible shelf layout, a quick wash cycle, an easily cleaned filter, decent noise levels.
Things that usually do not — an app, a screen, a dozen specialised programmes, voice control. These add cost, add things that can fail, and are used enthusiastically for a fortnight.
Timing
Prices fall around festive sales and when new model years arrive, and the outgoing model is frequently the same machine as the new one with different trim. If you are not in a hurry, waiting for a model transition is the cheapest single thing you can do.
