- Where do I find the wattage?
- On the rating plate — usually a sticker on the back or inside the door — and on the BEE label. For an air conditioner, the label also gives annual units, which is a better figure than raw wattage because it already accounts for cycling.
- What is the duty cycle for?
- Compressor appliances do not draw full power continuously. A fridge compressor runs perhaps a third of the time, and an inverter AC throttles down once the room is cool. Applying the rated wattage for every hour would badly overstate the cost.
- Is a 5-star appliance always worth it?
- No. It depends on how many hours you actually use it and what you pay per unit. An AC running eight hours a day repays the premium quickly; a second fridge in a spare room may never. That is exactly what the comparison below is for.
